Career, Goal, and Strength-Based Assessments for Improving Academic Performance
Feedback helps students learn about their progress, but it also can help educators develop and tailor courses to suit student needs and goals. Assessing and identifying academic, career, and life goals in tandem with strengths may help high school students better focus their efforts on short- and long-term goals. This trial will test the advantages of including career, goal, and strength assessments at student intake.
Students will be randomly assigned to the intervention group or to the control group. All incoming students will complete a standard battery of intake assessments, but the intervention group will be given additional assessments. Results will be shared and discussed with students. Outcome analyses will compare academic performance and progress, retention in the program, and student and teacher satisfaction.
